CK Nears 100 COVID-19 Deaths

Chatham-Kent is nearing an unfortunate milestone amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Another local resident has died as a result of the virus, bringing the death toll to 99 since the pandemic began.

In this week’s COVID update from CK Public Health, 65 new cases of the virus were reported between January 29 and February 4, bringing the seven-day average to nine new high-risk cases per day.

The positivity rate in Chatham-Kent has risen to 19 per cent, while the provincial rate sits at 13.5 per cent.

Health officials emphasize that the reported numbers are an underestimate of the true caseload across the municipality due to limitations on PCR testing.

Two new COVID outbreaks have been reported in the past week. An outbreak was declared at Riverview Gardens nursing home on February 1 with a total of 12 cases. The other outbreak is at Oaks Retirement Village, which was declared on February 2 with a total of seven cases.
