In an effort to try and boost the tree cover in Chatham-Kent, one South Kent councillor is proposing Chatham-Kent plant one million trees in a four-year span.
Councillor Anthony Ceccacci plans on making a motion at an upcoming council meeting for administration to write up a report outlining the one million tree-planting initiative.
Ceccaci would like to see the report identify public lands that can used to support this initiative, as well as best practices from other municipalities that have undergone a tree-planting project.
The report would also look into ways to encourage private landowners to plant and maintain tree cover and other natural habitat, as well as identify any potential community partners who can help the municipality achieve its ambitious tree-planting goal.
If approved by council, the report is expected to be prepared for the Nov.18 meeting of council.
