Nearly a dozen new Chatham-Kent police patrol vehicles will need to be purchased this year to replace several others that have reached the end of their lifecycle.
In a report going to the Chatham-Kent Police Services Board, it is recommended that board members approve the purchase of 10 new Dodge Durangos to be used in frontline patrol at a total cost of $784,045.
The cost of the vehicles includes the required equipment packages for use in the police service and falls within anticipated police budget costs.
During an annual review of its fleet of vehicles, the police service determined that some patrol cars had exceeded the maximum allotted mileage of 150,000 km or had been in service for the pre-determined life cycle of three years.
If approved by the board, the new vehicles will be purchased through the Provincial Police Co-operative Group, which offers discounted prices for policing agencies in Ontario.
The CK Police Services Board will review the vehicle purchases at an upcoming meeting on Wednesday.
