Local police officers are among the many fundraising groups in Chatham that have exceeded expectations in supporting Canadian veterans and first responders.

The Rucksack March for Remembrance was held at Kingston Park in Chatham on November 1 in support of Wounded Warriors Canada and its initiatives for those fighting mental health and service-related battles.

A squad of Chatham-Kent Police Service members joined other teams at the park to complete a 22-kilometre march while carrying 50-pound weighted packs. A five-kilometre option was also available.

CKPS exceeded its $1,000 goal by raising $1,079. In all, the Chatham event raised $35,903, making it the highest-earning Rucksack March location in Canada this year.

Next year’s Rucksack March for Remembrance will take place on November 7, 2026.
