We’re into day two of the new, stricter stay-at-home order, but a few things have changed since the measures were first announced.
On Saturday, the premier announced that playgrounds were no longer off limits as long as physical distancing could be maintained.
The government also walked back its threat of random police checks to ensure people were only going out for essential purposes.
A number of police forces across the province, Chatham-Kent’s included, said their focus would be on education and enforcement, only when necessary, without making random vehicle or pedestrian stops.

“During these challenging and concerning times, the expansion of these new measures are necessary. The CKPS wishes to emphasize that our primary objective over the next six weeks will be to educate, limit mobility & contact and enforce only when necessary, with no random vehicle or pedestrian stops. As a Police Service, we recognize and take into consideration that all of our community is experiencing ‘COVID fatigue’, however these new variances are more transmissible and as a result, collectively we need to be more vigilant and respect these new measures. We (CKPS) hope that everyone will do their part by complying with the new Stay-At-Home orders, as the current third wave of the pandemic poses an extraordinary threat to both public safety and our citizens.”
