When it comes to a ‘lame duck’, the Municipality is ready.
The term refers to a situation where 25% of a council isn’t seeking re-election. That would mean that from Election Day to the end of term, only three-quarters of council would be in office.
Mayor Randy Hope says that in this case, council wouldn’t be able to make certain decisions.
“You can’t move the new council in a new director or acquire different services, like police services,” Hope explains. “There’s an administrative function, but then there’s decisions for future, and decision for future cannot be done by council, nor can it be done by administration.”
Council passed a bylaw Monday night to allow the Chief Administrative Officer to make a few decisions that council would be restricted from making.
