Chatham-Kent will be wasting no time in applying for provincial funding for a new arena and sports complex in Chatham.

Funding through the Community, Culture and Recreation Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program was announced at last week’s AMO conference in Ottawa.

Mayor Darrin Canniff says municipal officials were able to meet with Ministry staff the very next day.

“We opened up a great line of communication to work forward with that,” Canniff says. “It’s coming up in about a week and a half, two weeks, and we’re going to have about 10 weeks, so we’ll have say 12 weeks between now and when we have to file the application.”

Canniff says the municipality will be as open as possible during the application process, and will bring all the details before council.

The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program is a provincial-federal partnership, so any projects will need approval from both levels of government.
