CK Records A 7th COVID-Related Death

Fairfield Park long term care home, Wallaceburg.

Another jump in Chatham-Kent’s COVID numbers over the weekend, including a 7th death linked to the coronavirus.

The latest victim is a woman in her 90s who lived at Fairfield Park. Public Health officials have confirmed this is separate from the passing of another resident at the Wallaceburg long term care facility last week who had previously tested positive for COVID-19, but whose death was not caused by the virus.

Since the last report from Public Health on Friday, officials say there have been 38 more confirmed cases in the municipality. With almost as many cases resolved, the total number of active cases now stands at 141.

Meantime, the outbreak at Fairfield Park in Wallaceburg has risen to 92, up from 76 on Friday afternoon.

A new outbreak has been declared at Copper Terrace in Chatham, while the Meadow Park outbreak has now been declared over. There is still one active case at Tilbury Manor nursing home.

And the COVID outbreak in the medicine unit at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance now affects 21 people, including staff and patients.

We’re still waiting for information on the second round of vaccinations after Chatham-Kent Public Health received a second shipment on Friday.

Checking in around the region, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is reporting 40 new cases of COVID-19 today, while Lambton County has five new infections.

The Ontario government is reporting 1265 new cases today along with 33 COVID-related deaths.
