The Municipality of Chatham-Kent will benefit from an annual provincial investment in public transit.

The Ontario government is allocating nearly $380 million to 102 municipalities to improve local transit through the 2023-24 Gas Tax program.

CK will receive a total of $977,409 through the program to extend service hours, buy transit vehicles, add routes, improve accessibility or upgrade infrastructure.

Funding for program is determined by the number of litres of gasoline sold in the province during the previous year. Municipalities that support public transit services in their community receive two cents per litre of provincial gas tax revenue collected.
