Chatham-Kent’s centre of arts and heritage is getting a new roof.
During a meeting on Monday, Chatham-Kent Council awarded a $353,445.92 contract to Grandvalley Roofing to replace the existing roof at the Chatham Cultural Centre.
The building is currently designated as a heritage property in CK.
The roof is over 20 years old and at the end of its normal lifespan and as a result, the Cultural Centre has been experiencing leaking within the studio and storage areas of the building. Notable deterioration has also been discovered in some areas.
Council previously approved spending $120,000 to replace the affected roof section in the 2024 budget. The remaining funds required for the project will be allocated from the Buildings Lifecycle Reserve.
It is unknown at this time when work on the roof is expected to begin.
