Municipal officials are urging the community to be wary of door-to-door canvassers.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent issued a reminder to the public this week that municipal staff will never canvas door-to-door to sell products, promote products, or solicit donations.

“Always be cautious of unsolicited persons at your door looking for charitable donations or attempting to sell a product or service. Do not let them rush or pressure you into buying a product, signing up for a service, or making a donation,” the municipality said in a news release.

Those unsure of the credibility of a canvasser are encouraged to shut the door and call Consumer Protection Ontario at 1-800-889-9768 or the Chatham-Kent Police Service at 519-352-1234.
