One week before the issue comes back to council, the municipality has released its woodlot preservation report to the public.
A temporary bylaw, including a moratorium on clear-cutting, was put in place April 26th, followed by a public consultation process including an online survey, virtual town hall, and written submissions.
A 19 page report to council recommends that the temporary bylaw be extended to December 14th, and administration start working on a Natural Heritage Advisory Committee, to be discussed by council on September 27th.
Municipal officials would also like to examine trends in Chatham-Kent’s tree cover, mapping out changes every five years between 2010 and 2020. The LTVCA estimates it will take roughly 3-4 months to process and analyze the data. The results could be ready by late 2021, and once ready will be presented to Council.
