The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is looking to recruit new members for a youth committee that will help tackle local community issues.

The Chatham-Kent Youth (CKY) Advisory Group is looking for young people between the ages of 15-39, who work, live, or study in the municipality.

William Locke, the co-chair of the advisory group, said the importance of young voices in the community cannot be overstated.

“We need more highly engaged young people to take an interest in the way our community makes decisions and to get involved in local government and community work,” he said in a news release.

The advisory group consists of up to 14 members that reflect Chatham-Kent’s diverse population in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ability, and economic status.

“We need more unique voices at our table. These conversations are distilled and given to council and municipal staff to aid in their decision-making when it comes to issues affecting young people. The more voices we have, the better guidance we can give,” said Co-Chair Morena McDonald.

The municipality will be accepting applications for the CKY Advisory Group until October 6. Applications can be found online by clicking here.
