The number of patients being treated for COVID-19 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance continues to climb.

CKHA officials say there are now 34 COVID patients. There are now 9 patients with the virus in the ICU, eight on ventilators.

All 10 intensive care beds are now filled, and occupancy of the hospital’s medical, surgical, and critical care beds sits at 100.7%.

Breaking down the numbers, officials say of the 34 COVID patients, 25 are unvaccinated, and the average age of those affected is 69.

The most recent data shows 38 staff are currently off work after testing positive or being exposed to the virus. However, CKHA officials say the data will be updated tomorrow to take statutory holidays and vacation for some administration staff into account.

85 new COVID cases are being reported across Chatham-Kent today, breaking the 4000 total case mark since the pandemic began.

Another COVID outbreak has been declared at a long term care facility – Hudson Manor in Tilbury has two confirmed cases. There are still just two cases linked to Tilbury Manor Nursing Home connected to an outbreak declared on Sunday, and two cases at Riverview Gardens in Chatham.

CK Public Health is also keeping tabs on a manufacturing outbreak with a total of 18 cases since December 2nd.

For the time being, COVID updates from Public Health do not include total active or resolved case numbers.

“We have removed the active and resolved for the moment due to the lack of accuracy with the limits to available PCR testing as per provincial direction,” spokesman Jeff Moco says. “We will be adding some additional charts this week to help bridge the information gap in the interim.”
