As Chatham-Kent Police continue to investigate allegations of assault against the Chief of Staff at CKHA, Dr. Pervez Faruqi is taking a leave of absence.
Chair of the hospital’s Board of Directors, Deb Crawford says the leave takes effect this Thursday, February 1st, and will not impact Dr. Faruqi’s hospital privileges.
“Dr. Faruqi’s leave of absence will not impact his medical practice (or) medical duties as a pediatrician at CKHA,” Crawford said in a media conference call Monday morning.
Dr. Zeke Milkovic will be taking over the Chief of Staff role along with his regular duties as CKHA’s Chief and Medical Director of Family Medicine.
According to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, charges of assault and assault involving choking, suffocating or strangling were filed against Dr. Faruqi on August 30, 2023, following incidents that took place between January 1-16, 2023 and on or about August 16, 2023.
The charges have not been proven in court.
