Officials at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance are moving on to the next chapter of revitalizing the organization.
This week marked the one year anniversary of the provincial investigator’s report into the governance and organizational structure of the hospital.
Provincially-appointed Supervisor Rob Devitt says a lot has been accomplished so far.
“In the last year we’ve seen complete transformation or change of leadership, from the executive offices, CEO, the VPs, significant restructuring or downsizing of leadership, we’ve seen a complete restructuring of medical leadership as well,” Devitt says. “We’ve restored fiscal accountability and fiscal responsibility of the organization, bringing gin its first balanced budget in years.”
Devitt says one of the biggest hurdles over the past 12 months has been getting the hospital’s finances back on track.
“For the year we’re in right now we’re going to actually have an accounting balanced budget, which is crucial,” he explains. “We’ve stopped the spiral of debt that the previous boards and leadership had created by using borrowed money and a line of credit to actually pay basic operating bills like labour costs (and) payroll, and we’ve not only stopped that, we been able to ramp down the line of credit.”
However Devitt says the work is on-going, including restoring public confidence in the organization.
