As pandemic-related restrictions continue to fall by the wayside, the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is once again changing its masking policy.

Effective immediately, hospitals in Chatham and Wallaceburg and other CKHA facilities will no longer required patients, families, or visitors to wear masks. The same applies to staff, physicians, volunteers, students, and contractors.

Back in April, the organization tweaked its policy, only requiring face masks in high-risk areas. Officials now say that waiting rooms and lounges in areas such as Oncology, Dialysis, and the Emergency Department is still encouraged, but no longer mandatory.

However, masks will still be required for any patients with a fever or any respiratory symptoms. Medical grade masks will still be available at public entrances of both the Chatham and Wallaceburg sites for anyone choosing to wear one.

Officials say CKHA’s COVID-19 policies and practices are subject to ongoing evaluation in relation to the spread of the virus. Health Alliance management will revisit and adjust these policies if/when necessary, adhering to provincial guidance and relying on the expertise of subject matter experts.
