Chatham-Kent’s hospital has recognized the commitment and dedication of its nursing staff through a formal tribute event.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) held its first CKHA Nurses Week Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, capping off National Nursing Week by highlighting those who have gone above and beyond in their service to patients and peers.
“The energy throughout this week has been truly inspiring, and being able to gather to celebrate our nurses in person was a highlight for our entire leadership team,” said Natalie Clark, CKHA’s chief nursing executive, in a news release. “Our nurses are more than just health care providers; they are the heart of this hospital. Seeing the talent and compassion displayed by our award recipients and finalists today reinforces why CKHA is such a special place to practice. I am incredibly proud of the work they do every single day to ensure our community receives the best possible care.”
Several honours were handed out, including the Compassionate Caregiver Award, which was presented to Heather Blakey by the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation. This award recognizes a provider whose practice is defined by empathy and a deep human connection to those in their care.
The Vicente and Delia Calma Memorial Nursing Excellence Award was also presented to Amie Wright, honouring a legacy of nursing leadership and clinical skill.
Brittany Gemelli, Dr. Cecil Liu and Becky Hall were also named as award finalists.
The award ceremony also featured a video tribute curated by staff from across the hospital, filled with messages of gratitude and admiration.
