Chatham-Kent’s hospital is taking part in a national program that will help to measure and enhance surgical care in the municipality.
As a member of the Ontario Surgical Quality Improvement Network, the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance has announced that it will be participating in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program.
The program utilizes data collection to help guide improvement efforts at CKHA. This data includes pre-operative risk factors, lab values, and post-operative complications of up to 30 days.
CKHA has already appointed a Surgical Clinical Reviewer who will oversee data collection and review from eligible patients.
Hospital officials said some surgical patients may receive a call following their procedure as part of this process. Participation in the program is voluntary.
The hospital said it will take roughly six months to a year to gather sufficient data to determine which key areas will be addressed as a part of a Surgical Quality Improvement Plan.
