Officials at the Health Alliance are keeping tabs on Ontario’s COVID numbers with warnings that the province has already entered the pandemic’s third wave.
Data from the Ontario COVID-19 science advisory panel shows increases in variants of concern and the numbers of ICU patients throughout Ontario.
So far CKHA Chief Nursing Executive Lisa Northcott says we’re doing ok locally.
“We really don’t know what to expect with this wave, Northcott says. “There are some people who predict we won’t see as many hospitalizations with this wave, but we don’t know that.”
She says in the meantime, the hospital is doing what it can to prepare.
“We’re constantly in contact with our regional partners and our partners across the province to keep an eye on and monitor our ICU capacity. Right now our ICU capacity is good, but we continue to monitor that every day.”
There are currently three COVID-positive patients in hospital in Chatham, one of whom is in the ICU.
Across Ontario, figures from the Ministry of Health show 741 COVID-positive patients in hospital, including 300 in intensive care.
