There is a major face lift coming to the Oncology department at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance that will mean the cancer care area will move for a couple of months.

The work will begin in April and is expected to take a couple of months.

For that period  there will be a relocation to the Dr. Don Patterson Student Learning Centre at the Chatham site of the CKHA located in Zone A, Level 0.

The patients have been informed of the move.

Oncology nurse Coleen Janzen says “They will have their own call bell system so the patients can contact them, a receptionist desk, and a designated blood room where patients can come in for their blood draws and assessments. and that will be it’s own designated room. It will make more space for the actual chemotherapy room because that is a very congested area.”

There will also be an electronic medication dispenser added to the department, and Janzen says that will improve patient safety.

The temporary move goes into effect April 1.
