Chatham-Kent’s hospital is commending its staff for going the extra mile to advance an important study focused on organ donor safety.
Over the summer months, the ICU team at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance arranged early shifts and provided additional staff support to ensure a patient could participate in the study, known as CONCLUDE.
Despite transport challenges, hospital officials said the ICU staff showed extraordinary teamwork and commitment.
“[CKHA’s] persistence and dedication to the cause is what made it possible,” The Trillium Gift of Life Network said in a news release. “The team at CKHA went above and beyond.”
Led by London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and University Health Network (UHN), the research study examines the use of Abdominal Normothermic Regional Perfusion, which restores blood flow to abdominal organs after death, improving their viability for transplant.
