The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is falling short on its operating costs this year.
“We’re looking at about a $3-million operating deficit,” Interim CEO Ken Deane says. “We’ve spent $5.1 to $9-million more than hospitals our size.”
The Health Alliance has hired a firm to compare its operations to comparable health care facilities.
Deane says their report shows that if they are able to reach the 40th percentile for efficiency, they could save as much as $12.3-million.
Both Deane and Supervisor Rob Devitt are looking at ways the hospital can be more efficient so that they can save money.
They expect that if they don’t address these inefficiencies, the deficit will be nearly $8-million next year.
