The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is updating visitor restrictions for both Chatham and Wallaceburg sites.
The specific changes are in regards to palliative care patients and COVID-19 patients.
CKHA will allow ONE visit by ONE visitor for a patient who is actively dying.
There will be NO visitation for patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19.
Virtual visits for these patients will be supported using technology such as iPads. Through generous donations, there are tablets available on every unit for patients to use to connect with their families.
Otherwise, no visitors continue to be permitted to the Chatham and Wallaceburg sites with a few exceptions.
CKHA’s exceptions include ONE consistent visitor for the following patients only: labouring mothers; paediatrics and Level 2 Nursery; patients who are actively dying and as per today’s announcement, this designated visitor can only make ONE visit to the hospital; patients undergoing life-threatening surgery; those undergoing surgery for other reasons such as fractures, will not be permitted a visitor; emergency department only for those exceptions noted above: paediatrics, patients who are actively dying or those who will undergo a life-threatening surgery.
All visitors must be over the age of 18, designated by a patient in one of the units named above, must be non-symptomatic and are required to check in at the main entrance at the Chatham Site and Emergency Department (ED) at the Wallaceburg Site where they will undergo screening. Visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for visitors designated by patients. Visiting outside of those hours will be by exception approved by the care team and those visitors will be required to enter through the Emergency Department at both sites in off hours.
Public entrances continue to be limited to the main entrance at the Chatham Site, and the Emergency Department (ED) at the Wallaceburg Site. The ED entrance at the Chatham Site is for emergency patients only. CKHA advises the public to NOT come to the hospital unless it is absolutely necessary.
