Since the province gave the ok for hospitals to resume day surgeries May 19th the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance has been rolling their operating rooms.

They were back up and running May 25th, but CEO Lori Marshall points out they are still facing a back log of 2400 procedures because of the pandemic.

We are currently working on a business case, related to our operating plan, to determine how it is that we can address this backlog, in particular the wait times. So that is how we will measure our success going forward is what are we able to do with respect to the wait times of those procedures.”

Marshall says they are looking at several options.

What we will be considering in this business case is the expansion of operating room hours, so that could include evenings or weekends. Or better optimization of the time we currently have with our operating rooms. As well as looking to see if expanding our services might necessitate new individuals coming to work with us at CKHA so that could be nurses working in the operating room, or in the post anesthetic care unit, normally called the recovery unit, or anesthesia ”.

She says this business case is already being worked on.
