Library patrons in Chatham-Kent are being invited to start a new chapter this month.

Local residents can now visit any Chatham-Kent Public Library branch to have old overdue fines cleared from their account.

Officials say they recognize that overdue fines can be a barrier to accessing library services, and they hope anyone who is not using the library due to outstanding fines will now feel welcome to return to the library and resume using library services.

There are some limitations, however, as replacement charges for unreturned or damaged items cannot be waived.

The “Start a New Chapter” campaign will run through October 24, which marks the end of Ontario Public Library Week.
