Chatham-Kent Police are investigating alleged threats made at a local high school.

Authorities have confirmed an investigation has been launched into allegations of threats of a shooting at Chatham-Kent Secondary School, and say the police service’s Youth Officer is working with the school.

“The Chatham-Kent Police Service, in close collaboration with the Lambton Kent District School Board, is aware of the comments and concerns circulating regarding alleged threats made towards Chatham Kent Secondary School. We want to assure the community that we take all threats seriously, and our investigators are actively working to investigate the matter,” said Public Information Officer Sgt. Lynette Rosina in an emailed statement.

A similar statement was released by the LKDSB on social media.

Authorities said there are currently no threats to the safety of students, staff, or the school.

CKXS News has reached out to CKSS Principal Ben Lawton with no response at the time of publishing.

It’s the second time in the last week that first responders have been called to CKSS. Students and staff were evacuated from the school last Monday after a fire was discovered in a second floor washroom.

We’ll provide more information as it becomes available.
