
Chatham-Kent Police are cracking down on the improper use of off-road vehicles on trails in Wheatley.
Police say resident have raised concerns about dirt bikes and others off-road vehicles, specifically on the Arboretum Trail.
Under municipal by‑laws and provincial legislation, the operation of motorized vehicles on multi‑use pathways and trails is restricted and may result in fines. Additional charges may apply under the Highway Traffic Act and the Trespass to Property Act, depending on the circumstances.
Authorities say patrol officers and members of the Traffic Management Unit will be monitoring the area, as resources allow, however incidents have to be reported to police in order to support those enforcement efforts.
Anyone who witnesses unsafe or unauthorized off‑road vehicle activity is encouraged to contact the Chatham‑Kent Police Service using the non‑emergency number, 519‑436‑6600.
