Local authorities want to make sure everyone gets home safety this holiday season.
The annual Festive RIDE campaign is underway, launching on Canada’s National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims.
Over the next month and a half, officers will be conducting R.I.D.E spot checks and targeted patrols to detect and deter impaired driving.
“The National Day of Remembrance is a powerful reminder of why initiatives like R.I.D.E. exists” said Acting Sergeant Lisa Rodger with the CKPS Traffic Management Unit in a news release. “Every impaired driver stopped could mean a life saved. Our officers will be visible and proactive throughout the holiday season to help ensure everyone gets home safely.”
The Festive R.I.D.E campaign will run until the new year with officers setting up checkpoints in both high-traffic and rural areas. Drivers are reminded to plan ahead, arrange a designated driver, use public transit, call a cab, or use a rideshare service.
