Local residents are being warned of a scam making the rounds claiming to be raising money for Chatham-Kent Police.

Authorities say they have received numerous reports from concerned citizens who have been contacted by someone claiming to be collecting donations on behalf of the police service for the purchase of teddy bears. However, the Chatham-Kent Police Service is not involved in any such fundraising campaign.

Officials say the Chatham-Kent Police Service does not solicit donations over the phone for any purpose, including the purchase of teddy bears or any other items.

Anyone who receives such a call is advised to hang up and not give out any personal information.
