Chatham-Kent’s “beach bus” will be making a return to the municipality this summer, but for how long remains to be seen.

During its meeting on Monday, CK Council voted in favour of restoring the seasonal bus service on a trial basis. The beach bus will run one Saturday per month in June, July and August at an estimated cost of $2,576.

This summer’s trial run will determine if the bus service is practical and cost-effective. If not, it will not return in future years.

The bus previously operated each weekend between the Victoria Day long weekend and Labour Day with routes from Chatham to Mitchell’s Bay and Erieau, with stops in Pain Court, Grande Point, Charing Cross, and Blenheim along the way.

However, the service was paused during the pandemic and not renewed during the 2022 budget process.
