A big drop in Chatham-Kent’s COVID numbers over the long weekend.

Public Health is reporting just one new case today along with a whopping 65 recoveries. That brings the total active caseload to just 51 across the municipality.

There are just two outbreaks on the books, Fairfield Park in Wallaceburg and the medicine unit of the Health Alliance. Officials at Fairfield say there are now just 10 active cases at the long term care facility, including three residents and seven staff.

Meantime, another case of COVID-19 has cropped up in the Medicine Unit at the Health Alliance.

Officials say a staff member has tested positive as part of the ongoing outbreak at the Chatham site.

Enhanced precautions have been put in place for all affected inpatients, and both the hospital and Public Health officials have been in discussion with any impacted families, outpatients, or recently discharged patients.

The Medicine Unit outbreak was first declared on January 29th, and has affected a total of 23 staff and patients.

Around southwestern Ontario, the Windsor-Essex health unit is reporting 44 new cases, covering both the holiday Monday and today. In Lambton County, there are 15 new infections, bringing the total number of active cases to 85.

Province-wide, Ontario is reporting 904 new cases, however that number is likely low as there are still some issues with data from Toronto Public Health. 13 more deaths have been linked to the virus across the province.
