Chatham-Kent’s fire chief Chris Case is praising a local company for its support.
Case said Handy Bros, a local HVAC company, approached the fire department asking if they could work in partnership with them in their home safety campaign.
Handy Bros’ engineers were trained by the fire department’s public educator Whitney Burk on home safety, where they can now spot the signs where someone might need assistance from the fire department.
The company also donated over 100 carbon monoxide alarms to the fire department which will be installed across Chatham-Kent in vulnerable people’s homes.
Case said it’s an excellent example of a private-public partnership. He said it’s important to be proactive.
“I always say we like to walk through the door with a smoke alarm in our hands rather than a hose line. If we can get in there with a smoke alarm and give them some advice, hopefully that person won’t be subject to the tragedy of a fire,” Case said.
