Chatham-Kent’s own Patricia Wright, one of this year’s United Way co-chairs, has some new hardware.
Wright won gold in women’s para-karate at the World Karate Championships in Austria over the weekend.
“I set a goal and achieved it” Wright says. “I wanted to be a WKF World Champion. I wanted to do it my first time being there too. I DID IT!! Now I need to honour and hold that title.”
Wright suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury in 2010 when she was struck by a vehicle.
She has since become an accomplished Brown Belt, recently completing and placing in international competitions in British Columbia and Las Vegas before becoming World Champion.
It was Wright’s first appearance at the Worlds and Canada’s first gold medal finish.
