Chatham-Kent has a few things to work on, according to the recent BMA report.
With a declining population, low average household income and relatively high property taxes, Chief Administrative Officer Don Shropshire says we need to be more competitive.
He also says CK needs to work on improving the quality of jobs:
“Some of the things that came out of the BMA report is that our median income is lower than the provincial average. So now that we’ve got a lot of people back to work, we have to make sure that the quality and pay of these jobs increases so that there’s more capacity for people to enjoy a great quality of life, and that includes paying for taxes to pay for all the infrastructure that people use daily.”
The report also revealed that our cost of water and wastewater services are lower than the provincial average, as well as our debt to reserve ratio.
