One of Chatham’s most popular walking paths is going to be a little busier in the next few weeks.

Crews will be removing sediment from the bottom of the Mud Creek drain in order to extend the lifespan of the storm water management system, which protects a section of Chatham’s southwest side from flooding during heavy rain.

Drainage Superintendent Ellen Sinclair says part of the path will always remain open on one side of the creek.

“We would like people to stay off the sides that will have the heavy machinery,” Sinclair says. “That will help us get the project done quicker if we don’t have to be trying to lead people away. The machines can’t work and function if there are people all around them.”

Work is expected to begin once the restricted fisheries activity window is lifted on July 16th, and could take up to eight weeks to complete.
