Cocaine, Fentanyl Seized During Drug Bust

More than $20,000 worth of drugs have been taken off the streets following a bust in Chatham.

As part of an ongoing investigation, the Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers with the Intelligence Unit conducted a traffic stop in the Riverview Drive area on Wednesday at around 2:15 p.m.

Officers discovered 33.96 grams of fentanyl and 4.55 grams of crack cocaine during a search and arrested the driver.

Shortly after, officers executed a search warrant at the driver’s home on Riverview Drive, seizing another 39.17 grams of fentanyl and 66.12 grams of cocaine. The total street value of all of the drugs seized is estimated at around $21,600.

During a search of the home, officers also seized debt lists, digital scales, packaging materials, a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle, and a quantity of Canadian currency.

A 34-year-old Chatham man is now charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a firearm knowing that it’s unauthorized, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, and failing to comply with probation.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
