There were a lot of stories coming out of the U.S. prior to Thanksgiving about people getting tested for COVID-19, just so they could ignore suggestions not to travel to visit family.
Chatham-Kent Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Colby, admits he is concerned that could happen here over Christmas.
It takes a minimum of 4 days for the virus to show up following a close contact.
“ Somebody could have a negative test and become infectious and positive the very next day. If there is an exposure we need to maintain that 14 day isolation period. This strategy of just testing and then forgetting about the precautions is a fools game. That’s not the way to do it at all”.
He adds there is also a lag for the test so if there is an exposure you have to wait at least 4 days for a positive test.
