Colby Doesn’t Put Much Stock In “Government Approved” PPE

The rising number of cases of Covid 19 at Wallaceburg’s Fairfield Park Long Term Care Facility has reached 87 on Thursday.

That includes residents and staff.

The Union representing the staff has complained about a lack of government approved masks.

When asked about it during a conference call medical Officer of Health Dr. David Colby said he had not seen the release but doesn’t think government approved means a whole lot.

I don’t put a whole lot of stock in whether certain equipment is government approved or not. For example, face shields that are recommended to protect against droplet precautions, any impervious material that provides the proper coverage and you can see through will work in that situation, whether it receives the imprimatur of a government agency or not”.

He added there has been a lot of effort to insure all of the homes in the municipality are using proper PPE.
