Faculty at Ontario’s 24 community colleges – including St Clair College – are on strike this morning.
John Fairley, Vice President of College Communications says the Chatham and Windsor campuses remain open.
“There’s computer labs and things they’d like to do at the college, those facilities and everything will be open, the Healthplex is open due to the fact that many people in the community use that facility as well as just our students,” Fairley says. “There will be no teaching going on at any of the college campuses, no continuing education, and no apprenticeship.
Fairley says support staff and administration will continue to report to work as normal.
He’s hopeful the strike will be short-lived, but says that’s anyone’s guess at this point.
“In the history that they’ve had a couple of strikes with the faculty, no student has ever lost their year,” Fairley explains. “Right now, the talks didn’t go as far as everyone wanted them to, but we’re hopeful that they can get back at it soon and this may just be very short term.
Information pickets will be set up outside the campus today.
