Colleges to help students financially after strike

The province wants to make sure students who have suffered financially because of the college strike are able to get back on their feet.

Officials will be hammering out details over the next few days on a plan that would see colleges establish a dedicated support fund with net savings from the strike.

Eligible students – both domestic and international – will be eligible to receive up to $500 to help with unexpected costs like January rent and day care costs.

As well, officials say apprentices can also apply for a full refund of classroom fees if they aren’t able to complete their in-school training because of the strike, and any student who decides to withdraw from college will get a full tuition refund.
