Officers had to resort to pepper spray while arresting a man in Chatham last night.

Police were called around 7:30 about a man who had allegedly threatened a woman over the phone. The suspect was tracked down on Queen Street, riding his bike to the victim’s house, carrying a knife and baseball bat.

Authorities say when approached by police, the accused held the knife in a threatening manner, and then spat on two officers after being taken to police headquarters.

The 37-year-old is now facing a slew of charges, including uttering threats, weapons offences, and two counts of assaulting police.
