A local charitable foundation is asking the Chatham-Kent community to “Rock the Block” in support of children in need across the municipality.
The Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent is hosting its 21st annual Festival of Giving event on June 25. The event will be held virtually, but residents are encouraged to purchase tickets and host their own summer gathering in the backyard to enjoy the show’s entertainment.
“We think having this event every year is very important. It raises important funds for the Children’s Treatment Centre to continue to provide the care and therapy that our kids in Chatham-Kent need,” said Lisa Caron, a fund development officer with the foundation. “One in five children in Chatham-Kent are helped at the Children’s Treatment Centre so having this event top of mind… supporting and bringing it back to the community is very important.”
Tickets for the event will go on sale on April 20 for $175, with all proceeds raised going towards important funding needs for the Children’s Treatment Centre. All ticket purchasers will receive a $100 tax receipt, $75 worth of certificates for local Chatham-Kent businesses, and be entered into a chance to win the grand prize Dream Trip valued at $7,500 by Vellinga Travel & Cruise Experts or a cash prize. The event also includes a silent auction.
Caron said the money raised by the foundation will support social work, therapeutic recreation, and music therapy at the Children’s Treatment Centre.
This will be the third year the foundation has held the event virtually due to the pandemic, however, Caron said it has not deterred the community from participating and donating to the cause.
“People have continued to support because of where the money goes towards [at] the Children’s Treatment Centre, but also because they get a great value for what the ticket [costs]. And it’s just a great way to have an event at home in the summer, gather some friends and support a great cause,” she said.
Last year’s virtual Festival of Giving event raised $151,500 for the Children’s Treatment Centre with more than 600 tickets sold.
“We hope to raise just as much or more,” said Caron.
