There was an overflowing crowd at the Wallaceburg Municipal Centre at last night’s meeting to discuss creating a community hub in Wallaceburg.
Designing a community hub to house a number of municipal and community organizations has been a pet project of Ward Five councillor Aaron Hall.
“It’s a puzzle,” Hall says. “I don’t know what the end result’s going to be, I don’t know what pieces are going to fit together, but I think we identified a few more of those pieces together and painted a little more of a clearer picture on how we’re going to move forward.”
Hall said what the community hub will look like and will include is to be determined, with the Wallaceburg Concert Band and the Wallaceburg Adult and Activity Centre both expressing interest in being possible tenants.
Fellow Ward Five rep Carmen McGregor says she was delighted to see so many people express an interest in the idea.
“Now we can start that community engagement, and it will take a lot of community effort,” McGregor says. “It’s going to require grants, it’s going to require fundraising, it’s going to require anchor tenants and different venues to make money to support a space.”
A task force is being created to look at various options available.
A report about a possible community hub in Wallaceburg is expected to be presented to Chatham-Kent council next month.
