Today marks the start of Community Living Month.
Kevin Cavanaugh, President of Community Living Wallaceburg says it’s all about inclusion and making sure everyone has a chance to contribute.
“To be inclusive, you have to have people participating proudly,” Cavanaugh says. “That’s why we’re not just another town or geographical area of Chatham-Kent Lambton, we’re a community.”
Community Living Wallaceburg supports more than 400 people with intellectual disabilities and their families in Chatham-Kent.
“It means (our clients) aren’t in institutions anymore, they’re’ out living in the community, they’re part of the fabric of our community, they’re able to participate in things like the Wallaceburg Wolves baseball game, different community events. It’s great to celebrate community and be part of something.”
A flag raising was held at the municipal centre in Wallaceburg this morning to mark the occasion.
