Community Mourns the Loss of Mike Korpan

Chatham-Kent is mourning the loss of a good man.

Mike Korpan passed away on Sunday, May 31st at the age of 58.

The news of Mike’s passing hit community members, business associates and the local farming circle hard this week.

Chatham-Kent residents continue to show an outpouring of love on social media for Korpan and his tight-knit family.

Known for his family business at Early Acres Estate Winery, Mike spent most of his life farming in Chatham-Township and was most happy out on the land and with his family.

His favourite thing to do was spend time with family and he enjoyed many vacations and family dinners that are forever etched in the memories of those family members.

Korpan passed at the CKHA on Sunday with his loving wife of more than 35 years, Susan (Meko), at his side.

Mike was the cherished son of Joseph Korpan of Chatham and the late Anna (Steen) Korpan.

Loving father of Kristen Korpan (Sean Dobbelaar) and Bryce Korpan (Kayla) and proud papa of Boone Dobbelaar.

Dear brother of Joe and his wife Pat Korpan, and Keith and his wife Sue Korpan.

Mike volunteered for numerous agricultural committees as well as local city organizations and was a volunteer firefighter.

One of Mike’s passions was the start of the family winery with Sue, “Early Acres Estate Winery”, and this will be one of the many legacies to his family.

His love for his grand-puppy “Lola” brought his daily enjoyment, and his newest addition of love to his family came last year with the birth of his first grandson “Boone”.

Mike took much pride in making sure his family always came first in his life. Everything he did was focused on their happiness and making sure everything was okay in their lives.

A private family time will be held at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Chatham.

Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to please consider the London Regional Cancer Program and the Animal Shelter C-K (cash donations/ cheques payable to Municipality of Chatham-Kent).

Arrangements entrusted to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington St. West, Chatham, 519-352-2710.
