Local students have stepped up to collect more than four truckloads of food in support of those in need in Chatham-Kent.
Ursuline College Chatham held its 19th annual Lancers Scare Hunger food drive on the evening of October 29, with students, staff and parent volunteers covering 60 routes across Chatham to collect non-perishable food items left on porches.
This year’s food drive surpassed last year’s total, with the donated items filling the foyer and lining the hallways of UCC. All of the food donations filled four trucks, and were dropped off at Chatham Outreach for Hunger the following morning by VanHoof Siding.
Organizers said Lancers Scare Hunger is the biggest food drive of the year for the Chatham food bank.
