Concerns Mount Over Rose Beach Erosion

Chatham-Kent officials are battling erosion in a number of areas along Lake Erie, including Rose Beach Line, which has experienced large amounts of land falling into the lake over the winter.

Ryan Brown, Chatham-Kent’s Director of Public Works, said it’s a rapidly changing situation on the road, especially the area just west of the Wildwood trailer park.

Sections of the road have closed over the past couple of years due to slope and bank failure and Brown says the situation continues to get more dire.

Three homes are impacted by two failures that have occurred on the road, creating access concerns.

Next steps by the municipality possibly include closing more areas of the road in the next few weeks.

Making the situation even more severe is a number of public utilities sewer and water lines run underneath the road.

Erosion has closed and impacted a number of shoreline roads in Chatham-Kent, including Talbot Trail and Erie Shore Drive.
