A Chatham elementary school is feeling the effects of COVID-19.

Any staff or students who may have been exposed to the virus are being contacted by Public Health, but officials haven’t released any details on what grades are affected or how many students are being quarantined.
“Chatham-Kent Public Health is working directly with the school to contact those who have been in close contact and to provide further directions,” a letter from the LKDSB says. “If you have not been contacted, you have not been in close contact with the confirmed case. As requested prior to the start of the school year, please continue to monitor your child for symptoms of COVID-19. If your child is ill, please keep them at home and call your health care provider or local health unit.”
This is the third school in Chatham-Kent to have at least one confirmed case of the coronavirus, including Ursuline College Chatham and Tecumseh Public School. Over a dozen students were also sent home from Chatham-Kent Secondary School earlier this week as a precaution due to potential exposure to a probable case of COVID-19.
Chatham-Kent’s current active caseload of COVID-19 stand at 32 with five new infections announced on Tuesday, including an outbreak in a congregate setting, which can include group homes, shelters, or other group living situations.
