Construction is in full swing for Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent’s new home, which remains on schedule to open to the public this summer.
The organization is expected to move into the new 12,000-square-foot ReStore at 55 Junction Avenue in Chatham sometime in July or August.
“It’s a great feeling to be getting closer to the opening. I know staff and volunteers are getting excited to get the new store open and welcome our customers to a new location,” said Anne Taylor, the office and volunteer manager for Habitat for Humanity CK.
Officials with Habitat for Humanity CK broke ground on the new store back in November 2023. The lease at the ReStore’s current location on Riverview Drive is set to expire in July.
Taylor said the new location will provide a much better shopping experience for customers.
“I think the great thing about this new location is that we’ve had 10 years in this spot to learn what sells, what the customers are looking for, what interests them,” she said. “We’re now able to move into a new location and streamline to what our customers are looking for.”
Operated by Habitat for Humanity, the ReStore accepts donations of used building materials, appliances, furniture, and other items to restore for sale. The proceeds are then used by Habitat to fund their primary function of building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means to break the cycle of poverty.
